Hand-turned by Roger from solid English Beech, this pestle and mortar pair combines timeless design with practical performance. The dense, close-grained beech provides a smooth, resilient surface ideal for grinding herbs, spices, and seeds without imparting flavour or odour. The mortar’s gently sloped bowl and the ergonomically shaped pestle work together to crush and release oils efficiently while offering comfortable, controlled handling. The pestle has a flat end for crushing and a rounded end for grinding, each is designed to be held comfortably in the hand.

Left untreated on the inside so as not to add any flavours to your crushing or grinding that you don’t want. The outside is treated to enhance the wood’s natural warmth and grain. The set is durable, easy to clean, and suited to everyday kitchen use. Each piece is crafted individually in my workshop, so grain patterns and colour will vary slightly—making every set a unique, handcrafted tool. Perfect for cooks who appreciate craftsmanship and natural materials.
